National Army Museum

The National Army Museum invited Wendy to perform stories about the legendary West African trickster, Anansi the Spider. As part of their half term events for children and families, Wendy spent the day encouraging everyone to participate with music, dance and stories about Anansi which relate to part of the Museum’s collections.

Formed in Nigeria on 1 March 1943, the 81st West African Division used the emblem of a black tarantula spider on a yellow background as their formation badge. This was inspired by the cunning part-spider part-man African folk hero known as Anansi.
