National Army Museum: Mary Seacole Stories

Today I was invited by the National Army Museum to tell stories that delved into the life of Mary Seacole – a nurse in the Crimean War and an accomplished entrepreneur and traveller. I took people right back to Jamaica in the 1800s with the challenges facing a Black creole woman of mixed heritage (Jamaican and Scottish).

With music and costumes from the museum, it was an amazing interactive day of workshops. The children were able to smell the fresh herbs I brought with me, and guess what Mary might have used for treating sick soldiers.
