Running workshops at HMP Swaleside

This was my first time delivering creative writing and storytelling workshops for men at HMP Swaleside Prison. It was an amazing day working with men who want to connect with their families and create stories for them. This was part of the #readconnect project run by Literacy Trust.

Everyone who attended received copies of my book Bedtime Stories: Beautiful Black Tales from the Past, for themselves and members of their family so that they can all read the stories together.

Some of their feedback really blew me away…

“I loved the session, time disappeared, and thought we could be anywhere in the world. Inspiring.”

“It was good, helps me feel free, it’s good to express yourself through writing. All good.”

“It was positive and reminded me of the past. I really enjoyed it and it was quite emotional also.”

I can’t wait to visit more prisons and share my stories with everyone.
