I was invited back to create a bespoke storytelling performance at the Royal Festival Hall for their Wild Wild Words show. The theme for the day was ‘climate and nature’. We decided that music and illustration would be part the show and I adapted two of my favourite West African folktales to present ‘Stories from the Rainforest’.
I was absolutely thrilled that Godfrey Tuup from Crick Crack Club could join me with Kremena Dimitrova who created beautiful artwork to accompany my stories. She also sketched children’s ideas, LIVE during the show and created a moving collage of the characters whilst I was telling. It was wonderful to see all ages joining in with their ideas. Their eyes lit up when they saw their ideas being drawn on the two huge screens and when they heard their ideas being weaved into the story by me and our BSL interpreter who was also on the stage 💫
I always love to add a party scene in a story and yesterday was no exception. During my tales, we brought the rainforest to life with dancing. Tuup’s drumming and percussion brought the stories to life. 🪘
The Southbank is one of my favourite venues in London and the entire programme for the day was free for the audience to participate. Amazing 👏🏾 Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in. It was one of the best shows I’ve done. 🙌🏾
